The Arizona Cardinals are facing an offseason full of decisions if they want to contend for the playoffs in 2025. With glaring holes in their defense and uncertainty on the offensive line, the quarterback position might not be the immediate focus—Kyler Murray is still set to lead the team despite only one playoff appearance in six years.
But at the NFL Combine, Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort made waves by suggesting that the quarterback position is still “wide open,” emphasizing the need for competition at every spot. “Everything’s on the table. We’re gonna look at every means… You can never have enough competition,” Ossenfort said, leaving the door open for potential changes.
While the need for a backup quarterback is clear—especially given Murray’s injury-prone playing style—the idea of true competition seems odd. Murray is a two-time Pro Bowler, and it’s hard to see how anyone could realistically challenge him for the starting role. With the team’s success hinging on Murray’s performance, his 2025 season will be critical. Whether he faces competition or not, it’s clear that his play this year will determine whether the Cardinals continue to invest in him or start planning for a future quarterback.
