A heart-wrenching memorial was held for 17-year-old Jansie Barthold, who was tragically killed in Northeast Miami-Dade. The memorial took place just hours after her boyfriend, 20-year-old Dominique Domond, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
Family and friends gathered to pay their respects to the young teen, whose life was cut short in a senseless act of violence. Barthold’s aunt led the mourners in prayer, thanking God for the time they had with Jansie. The group remembered Barthold’s life, with her mother flying in from out-of-state to attend the memorial.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Barthold’s body was found in the backyard of a Northeast Miami-Dade home. The victim’s family revealed that this is the second sibling they have lost in a span of a few years.
Barthold’s brother, Quincy Vincent, expressed his shock and sadness, stating that his sister didn’t deserve to die. He also apologized for not being able to protect her. The family members stood united, expressing their grief and sorrow.
The investigation revealed that Domond initially gave conflicting statements, claiming he was attacked by an unknown man and Barthold before pushing her out the back door. However, he later admitted to choking Barthold to death with his bare hands and disposing of her body in the backyard.
Domond was arrested and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. In court, he was charged with second-degree murder, which carries a punishment of life in prison if convicted. He was denied bond and is set to appear in court again.
The community has come together to support Barthold’s family, with a GoFundMe set up to cover funeral costs. As the family mourns the loss of their loved one, they are also seeking justice for her tragic death.
