NFL Speaks Out: Latest on Former Alabama WR

Henry Ruggs was once considered one of the most electrifying wide receivers in football during his time with the Alabama Crimson Tide and later the Las Vegas Raiders. His speed and playmaking ability made him a standout talent with a promising NFL future. However, in his second season, that future was derailed after he was involved in a fatal DUI crash that killed another driver. Ruggs was sentenced to 3 to 10 years in prison, with his earliest possible release date set for August 5, 2026.

Recently, his former teammate with both Alabama and the Raiders, Josh Jacobs, opened up about Ruggs during an interview with Ryan Clark. Jacobs revealed that Ruggs remains optimistic and has been allowed to train while incarcerated. “He’s positive about everything… I’ve talked to some people for him, and a few teams are actually open to giving him another chance,” Jacobs said. “When that chance comes, he’s got to go all in. One bad decision shouldn’t define him forever.”

Jacobs, who is close to Ruggs and his family, believes in his character and potential for redemption. If Ruggs continues to stay on the right path and stays in shape, there’s a chance he could return to the NFL. At just 26 years old and a former No. 12 overall draft pick in 2020, a successful comeback would be one of the most compelling stories in recent league history. Should he return, the spotlight will be intense—but so could the redemption.
