Although the Alabama Crimson Tide won’t be competing in next week’s Final Four, their March Madness run was still one to remember.
Their standout moment came during a 113-88 blowout win over BYU in the Sweet 16, where Alabama set a record by hitting 25 three-pointers. Led by first-team All-American guard Mark Sears, the Crimson Tide have averaged 90 points per game for two consecutive seasons. However, with Sears, along with seniors Grant Nelson and Chris Youngblood, likely leaving after their fifth college season, Alabama faces a significant offensive gap for the 2025-26 season.
The expectation is that head coach Nate Oats and his staff will turn to the transfer portal once again to bring in top-tier offensive talent. Already, less than 48 hours after their Elite 8 exit to the Duke Blue Devils, Alabama has scheduled a meeting with one of the top shooters available in the portal—Monmouth’s Abdi Bashir Jr. According to Joe Tipton of On3, Bashir Jr. will meet with Alabama on Tuesday.
Bashir Jr., whose twin brother Abdul Bashir has committed to Auburn, was not ranked in the 2023 class but signed with Monmouth. He played a reserve role as a freshman, averaging 6.3 points per game, before becoming a starter last season and averaging 20.1 points per game, ranking 15th nationally. His 127 made three-pointers lead the country as the season nears its conclusion. With an impressive 38% shooting accuracy on 10.1 three-point attempts per game, Bashir Jr. ranks in the 96th percentile for three-point efficiency, according to ShotQuality.
