The buzz around Arch Manning just got louder—and more divided. Despite being one of the most hyped quarterbacks in college football, the Texas Longhorns’ young star was left off ESPN analyst Greg McElroy’s list of top 10 QBs heading into the new season. The reason? Inexperience. But not everyone’s buying that.
Ari Wasserman from On3 pushed back hard, calling the doubt misplaced. “It’s obvious he’s going to be good,” he wrote. “You’d have to ignore everything—on and off the field—to leave him off a list like this.”
The reaction from fans was mixed, and brutally honest. Some questioned if Manning’s last name is doing more work than his actual resume. “He couldn’t even beat out Ewers last season,” one fan pointed out. Others say he simply hasn’t proven himself in real pressure yet. “Let him start a game before crowning him,” another said.
McElroy explained his reasoning, pointing out that first-year starters rarely get the nod over experienced players who’ve performed under fire. He acknowledged Manning’s flashes of talent, but added that most of it came against weak opponents—and that’s not enough to earn a spot.
The message is clear: Arch Manning’s name alone won’t carry him. He’ll have to earn his place the hard way, on the field, one snap at a time.
