Say hello to **Jelani McDonald** — a name you’re about to hear *a lot* more often.
A former four-star recruit with freakish athleticism, McDonald flashed serious potential last season in a limited role — notching **33 tackles** and a pick. Now, with a starting job up for grabs, he’s ready to show the world what he’s really made of.
And he’s already turning heads.
**Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon** just called him the Longhorns’ **“hidden gem”** heading into 2025 — and for good reason.
“While the spotlight was on Barron, Taaffe, and Mukuba,” Kenyon wrote, “McDonald quietly made his presence known. He played regularly, moved between safety and nickel with ease, and proved he can be a serious asset in the secondary.”
But you don’t need an expert to tell you he’s special — just ask the guys who lined up next to him.
