Alabama football has returned to the field for spring practice, officially shifting focus from a disappointing 2024 season to the high expectations of the 2025 campaign.
Following Alabama’s first spring practice on Monday, Kalen DeBoer met with the media to provide an update on the injuries the Crimson Tide is currently dealing with. He shared details on several players who will miss spring practice and others who will be limited due to injury.
Non-contact limitations:
- OT Kadyn Proctor
- LB Justin Jefferson
- DT James Smith
Out for the spring:
- LB Deontae Lawson
- CB Domani Jackson
- S Keon Sabb
- DE Kevonte Henry
- TE Danny Lewis Jr.
- WR Bubba Hampton
- P Alex Asparuhov
- LS David Bird
DeBoer emphasized that most of these injuries stem from the previous season and were anticipated by the coaching staff. It comes as no surprise that both Deontae Lawson and Keon Sabb will miss the spring, as they both suffered season-ending injuries in 2024. Similarly, Kadyn Proctor’s limited status is expected, given the shoulder issues he faced last season.
The injuries to Kevonte Henry, Bubba Hampton, and Danny Lewis Jr. are more concerning for players aiming to earn playing time. While Lewis, with his experience and the team’s limited tight end depth, should still find a role, Henry and Hampton face challenges. Henry, a JUCO transfer, will miss valuable reps as he competes for a spot on the defensive line, and Hampton’s chances of making an impact at wide receiver are slim with his spring absence.
Opportunities for younger players to shine
With Deontae Lawson out and Justin Jefferson limited, the linebacker position offers significant opportunities for younger players to step up. Colorado transfer Nikhai Hill-Green was expected to contribute, but redshirt freshmen like Cayden Jones and QB Reese will also get important reps this spring.
At tight end, Alabama will rely on senior Josh Cuevas, redshirt freshman Jay Lindsay, and true freshman Marshall Pritchett, with no other scholarship options available for the position. Lindsay and Pritchett will have a chance to make an impression.
On the offensive line, with Kadyn Proctor limited, freshman Jackson Lloyd will get valuable reps and could challenge Wilkin Formby for the starting right tackle position. Other freshmen like Micah DeBose and Mal Waldrep will also see increased action, while Ball State transfer Arkel Anugwom may be thrust into significant playing time.
The team’s thin numbers at tackle could also lead to some interior linemen, like redshirt sophomore Olaus Alinen and true freshman Michael Carroll, getting reps at tackle this spring.
