Dawn Staley has firmly established herself as one of the most successful coaches in college basketball history, guiding South Carolina to **three national championships**—including a **title game appearance just last season**.
Now, as Staley gears up for another promising run with the Gamecocks, there have been a few changes within the program’s extended family.
On Sunday, **Quintus F. Wrighten Jr.**, former assistant director of bands at South Carolina, announced he’ll be stepping away from his role with the Gamecocks and his position at the South Carolina School of Music. The news prompted an emotional reaction from Staley, who responded,
**“Omgoodness! I’m super happy for you, Quintus, but sad to see you go! We had some great times and will miss you dearly. Best to you—and you will always be a Gamecock!”**
A pillar of the South Carolina community since **2008**, Staley began her head coaching journey at Temple in 2000 before taking over the Gamecocks and turning them into a national powerhouse. Her achievements speak volumes: **seven Final Four appearances, nine SEC regular-season titles, and nine SEC Tournament championships**.
As she heads into the new season, Staley isn’t just chasing wins—she’s building a legacy. And while familiar faces like Quintus move on, the spirit of Gamecock excellence marches forward.
**The big questions now: Can Staley lead South Carolina to another national title? How will the team adapt with changes behind the scenes? And who will step up next to carry the Gamecock legacy forward?**
