The Miami Hurricanes are having their best season since 2017, and with just two more wins, they could reach 11 victories for the first time since their Orange Bowl win in 2003. After finishing last season with a disappointing 7-6 record, the addition of Washington State transfer quarterback Cam Ward has been a game-changer for the team’s offense. Under Ward’s leadership, the Hurricanes have surged to a 9-1 record, with Ward topping the ACC in passing yards, touchdowns, air yards per attempt, and passer rating.
Ward is now a strong contender for the 2024 Heisman Trophy and, with another stellar season, is not only a Heisman hopeful but also one of the top NFL Draft prospects. According to a recent mock draft, Ward is projected to be the first quarterback selected in the 2025 NFL Draft, and is expected to be taken as the second overall pick.
In a recent mock draft from The 33rd Team, Ward is slotted to land with the New York Giants, signaling a potential end to Daniel Jones’ tenure as the starting quarterback. Jones has struggled recently, throwing just 10 touchdowns in his last 16 games, with the Giants compiling a 3-13 record during that span. The Giants could move on from Jones and his large contract this offseason, making way for the promising Ward.
A former zero-star recruit in the 2020 class, Ward began his career at Incarnate Word, where he earned the Jerry Rice Award as the top FCS freshman. He then transferred to Washington State in 2022, where he threw for 48 touchdowns and 16 interceptions over two seasons before moving to Miami. This year, Ward leads the FBS with 3,494 passing yards and 32 touchdowns, with just six interceptions. He’s also rushed for 182 yards and three touchdowns, completing 67% of his passes through 10 games.
