Judge’s Vicious Text Messages Derail Death Penalty Case Against Miami Gang Leader

A Miami judge, Bronwyn Miller, has been exposed for sending vicious text messages to the DA’s office, berating defense attorneys and making digs at fellow judges.

The messages were revealed in the case of Corey Smith, a notorious Miami gang leader who was sentenced to death in 2005. Miller, who presided over Smith’s case as a prosecutor two decades ago, was found to have sent texts pressuring the DA’s office on how to handle Smith’s resentencing. The case has been marred by controversy, with Smith’s attorneys arguing that the state attorney’s office is “too compromised” to participate in the resentencing.
