Draymond Green recently shared an incredible story about how Steph Curry has earned the admiration of the entire NBA. Green recounted an experience from last summer when an NBA All-Star reached out to ask for Curry’s phone number. The player was so nervous about contacting Curry, the best three-point shooter in history, that he sought Green’s help.
“Guys in the league look at [Steph] like this mythical superhero,” Green explained after the Warriors’ recent loss to the Clippers. “This summer, a well-known NBA player asked me for Steph’s number because he wanted to talk to him. It was a whole thing—he was like, ‘I don’t talk to Steph, can you give me his number?’”
Green then relayed the request to Curry, who agreed to share his number. But when the player hesitated, unsure how to approach Curry, Green simply told him, “Just ask him the question!”
Draymond has observed that this type of respect and awe extends across the entire basketball community, not just from younger players. He noted that when new players join the Warriors, their first reaction is often one of surprise at how humble and approachable Curry is.
“Steph’s demeanor is so inviting, it makes everyone feel comfortable,” Green added. “And that comfort translates to the court.”
Curry’s groundbreaking three-point shooting and leadership, along with his four NBA championships, have solidified his place as one of the most influential figures in basketball, contributing to the Warriors’ legacy.
