The most thrilling NFL game in Week 10 was undoubtedly the Baltimore Ravens vs. Cincinnati Bengals matchup on Thursday Night Football. The game featured remarkable performances from Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who threw for 428 yards, completing 34 passes and four touchdowns, and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who hauled in 11 catches for 264 yards and three touchdowns. Despite their impressive play, the Bengals couldn’t secure the win, as the Ravens pulled off a narrow 35-34 victory.
Baltimore’s stars, quarterback Lamar Jackson (who threw for 290 yards and four touchdowns) and wide receiver Tylan Wallace (who had three catches for 115 yards and one touchdown), were equally phenomenal in the win. However, the Ravens’ victory came at a cost, as two of their defenders were fined by the NFL. Defensive tackle Travis Jones was hit with a $22,511 fine for roughing the passer after hitting Burrow in the head/neck during a two-point conversion attempt late in the game. Cornerback Marlon Humphrey, who had two separate infractions, was fined a total of $33,766. He received a $22,511 fine for unnecessary roughness, specifically for using his helmet on Chase, and an $11,255 fine for a facemask penalty against Burrow in the fourth quarter.
Altogether, Baltimore’s defensive players were fined $56,277 for their actions in the game. This follows a pattern of fines for the Ravens’ defense: In Week 7, Nnamdi Madubuike and Roquan Smith were fined for unnecessary roughness, with Smith’s fine later being rescinded, and Smith and Odafe Oweh were fined for similar offenses in Week 1.
Despite the penalties, Humphrey and Jones played pivotal roles in the victory. Humphrey posted five tackles, one pass deflection, one quarterback hit, and one forced fumble, while Jones recorded two tackles and one quarterback hit. The Ravens’ defense consistently pressured Burrow, hitting him 13 times and sacking him three times. Humphrey, a three-time Pro Bowler and former first-team All-Pro, has recorded 39 tackles, 10 pass deflections, four interceptions, and a forced fumble this season. Jones, in his third year in the NFL, has made 22 tackles and has three quarterback hits and one sack in 10 games.
