Sad News: Auburn Tiger loss another Superstar due…

Auburn quarterback Payton Thorne’s availability for Saturday’s game against Louisiana-Monroe remains uncertain. Head coach Hugh Freeze revealed that Thorne did not practice during last week’s bye due to a right throwing shoulder injury sustained in the loss to Vanderbilt. The injury has not yet fully healed.

“He’s not as far along as I had hoped with the shoulder,” Freeze said on Wednesday. “He thinks he’ll be fine, but he wasn’t ready to play on Tuesday.”

Thorne has recorded 1,825 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and seven interceptions this season. However, he was benched in favor of Hank Brown after throwing four interceptions in a loss to California. Brown, who had earlier been replaced by Thorne after three first-half interceptions against Arkansas, and freshman Walker White are the current backups.

When asked about a possible quarterback change due to health or performance, Freeze remained noncommittal.

“We’ll see how the week goes with that and with the others getting reps,” Freeze said. “That’s not to say I don’t think Thorne has played pretty solid lately. But you start thinking about the bigger picture.”
