Heading into the 2024-25 NBA season, many believed the Golden State Warriors might finally show signs of regression. With Klay Thompson leaving the team in free agency and no major trade acquisitions in the offseason, some saw this as the beginning of the end for Stephen Curry and company.
But contrary to expectations, the Warriors have come out of the gates strong, winning 9 of their first 11 games. Despite the skepticism surrounding their roster, Steve Kerr’s squad is looking every bit like a legitimate contender in the Western Conference, especially with a healthy Curry and a recent emotional victory over Klay Thompson’s Dallas Mavericks.
However, the Warriors received a setback this week with news of an injury to guard De’Anthony Melton. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Melton has suffered a sprained left ACL. While no specific timeline for his return has been announced, a sprained ACL is a serious concern, and the team is expected to take a cautious approach with his recovery.
The loss of Melton, who has averaged 10.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game this season, could impact the Warriors’ depth. He’s been shooting 40.7% from the field and 37.1% from three-point range, making him a valuable contributor off the bench. It will be interesting to see how Golden State adjusts to his absence as they look to maintain their early-season momentum without him.
As the Warriors continue their quest for the top spot in the West, the team will have to overcome this injury and see if they can stay on track for a potential championship run.
