ESPN REPORT: Dallas Mavericks Made a Contract Of $150M Deal….

Free agent guard Klay Thompson has agreed to a three-year, $50 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks, ending his 13-year tenure with the Golden State Warriors, who have won four championships with him. This decision was influenced by the Mavericks’ potential for a fifth title, having recently been Western Conference champions.

The deal, facilitated by his agent Greg Lawrence of Wasserman, involved a multi-team sign-and-trade. Mavericks guard/forward Josh Green will go to the Charlotte Hornets, and the Warriors will receive two second-round picks.

Dallas will send its own 2031 second-round pick and the less favorable of the 76ers’ or Nuggets’ second-round pick in 2025, according to sources.

Lawrence and Thompson discussed the details of the deal with Mavericks GM Nico Harrison and VP Michael Finley at the Bottle Inn in Hermosa Beach, California. While the Lakers were an appealing option for Thompson, the financial benefits of living in Texas and the Mavericks’ recent success influenced his decision.

Thompson’s relationship with the Warriors became strained over contract negotiations and his impending free agency, leading to his departure. His role on the team fluctuated, contributing to his discontent. Last season, Thompson, 34, averaged 17.9 points, his lowest since 2012-13.

Thompson leaves a lasting legacy with the Warriors, where he, Stephen Curry, and Draymond Green achieved 518 wins and 98 playoff victories together, ranking third in NBA history. The Warriors expressed their gratitude and announced plans to retire his No. 11 jersey, acknowledging his significant contributions and memorable performances.
