GREAT New: Green Bay Packers Quarterback Has Earned a Contract Extension..

The Green Bay Packers have agreed to a four-year, $220 million contract extension with quarterback Jordan Love, according to league sources. The deal includes a record-setting $75 million signing bonus and $155 million in new guaranteed money, making Love the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.

Love’s new contract aligns his earnings with top quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow, who also make $55 million per year. This places him ahead of other high-earning quarterbacks like Tua Tagovailoa ($53.1 million per year), Jared Goff ($53 million per year), Justin Herbert ($52.5 million per year), and Lamar Jackson ($52 million per year).

The agreement concludes Love’s “hold-in,” where he skipped practice until securing a new contract. He reported to camp on time and will participate in team activities outside of practice.

Despite not having a new contract, Love participated in all offseason activities. However, his representatives informed the Packers before training camp that he wouldn’t practice without a new deal.

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst expressed optimism at the start of training camp, stating, “I feel we’re close.”

Love, 25, was entering the final year of his contract and recently had a breakout season, leading the Packers to a surprise divisional-round playoff appearance. He recorded 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 17 regular-season games.

Now entering his second season as the Packers’ starter, Love spent four years behind current New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The Packers and Love had previously agreed on a one-year extension worth up to $22.5 million, including $13.5 million guaranteed, for the upcoming season.

**Why Green Bay Made This Deal:**

The Packers surprised many when they traded up in the 2020 first round to draft Love, despite four years remaining on Rodgers’ contract. Love spent three years as Rodgers’ backup, and the patience has paid off for both Love and the organization.

The Packers hope Love can continue the legacy of Brett Favre and Rodgers, aiming for three consecutive Hall of Fame quarterbacks. Although Love has much to prove, he was arguably the NFL’s best quarterback in the second half of last season.

In his first three NFL seasons, Love only started one game, a Week 9 loss to the Chiefs in 2021, filling in after Rodgers tested positive for COVID-19. Despite the challenges, Gutekunst admired Love’s resilience. With confidence from observing Love in practice and behind the scenes, the Packers were ready to entrust their offense to the then-24-year-old quarterback.
