San Francisco 49erslinebacker Dre Greenlaw has been ruled out of the second half of the Super Bowl, after going down with a freak Achilles tendon injury in the first half against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
Greenlaw bounced up and down on the sideline and then started to run onto the field with a few teammates when he collapsed holding his left leg.
At halftime, it was confirmed that Greenlaw wouldn’t be able to return.
Greenlaw started all 15 games he played this season and was the team’s second-leading tackler. He’s in his fifth NFL season, all with San Francisco.

He was credited with three assists in this game before his injury.
Greenlaw was involved in a sideline altercation with head of Eagles security Dom DiSandro in Philadelphia’s 42-19 loss to the 49ers on December 3.
He was ejected for his involvement in the scrap.
Greenlaw was later fined $10,927 by the league for the call against him at the time – a penalty for unnecessary roughness.
He is also one of only eight players on the active roster who played in Super Bowl LIV (54) four years ago, when the Chiefs overturned a 10-point deficit in the final seven minutes of the fourth quarter to break the 49ers’ hearts.
