Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is reportedly aiming to return to the Premier League just six months after joining the exodus of players to Saudi Arabia.
Henderson, who played for Liverpool for 12 seasons, now plays under former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard at Al Etifaq.
However, things did not go to plan and Gerrard was on the verge of being sacked after failing to win his last eight matches over the past two months.
Mr Henderson has been heavily criticized for moving to Saudi Arabia due to the country’s conservative stance towards the LGBT+ community, which Mr Henderson has publicly supported in the past.
Henderson reportedly earns £700,000 a week, but Saudi tax rules mean he won’t have to pay tax if he stays for at least two seasons.
But the 33-year-old has struggled to adapt to his new playing conditions and has told teammates he is considering leaving – and leaving early could cost him a whopping £7 in tax.
Because of their sexuality.
The Saudi League is currently on a six-week break due to the Asian Cup.
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino was asked about the possibility of a transfer for the England international, and he answered as follows: We’re not talking about players at the moment.
“I saw Behdad [Egbali] with Paul [Winstanley] and Lawrence [Stewart].
I think we’ll talk tomorrow.
We didn’t talk about names or players.
At the moment we are focusing on players like Andrei Santos.
” 19-year-old midfielder Santos was recently recalled from a disappointing loan spell at Nottingham Forest.
