The Iowa women’s basketball program picked up a massive commitment on Tuesday as Mater Dei (Calif.) five-star guard Addison Deal committed to the Hawkeyes over LSU, and a large number of others programs.
Deal is the No. 12 overall prospect in the class of 2025, per ESPN, while Iowa also has a commitment from Journey Houston, another top-40 prospect nationally
The Hawkeyes aren’t going anywhere. On Tuesday night, Mater Dei (CA) guard Addie Deal announced her commitment to the University of Iowa. Deal has been recruited by the Hawkeyes for the past couple of years and most recently made a visit to Iowa’s Senior Day when they went on to defeat No. 2 Ohio State.
Deal is ranked as the No. 1 player in California and No. 12 overall by ESPNW. She held offers from 26 different schools throughout the recruiting process. As a sophomore, she averaged a team-high 15 points to go along with 5.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals. Her season was cut short after a grade-three sprained ankle she suffered in December.
Deal’s ability as a game-breaking scoring guard is something that will immediately translate to the next level. She isn’t afraid to pull up from 25-feet and drop it through the net with ease. She also has a dangerous first-step and can create her own shot off the dribble. The California native has a future at either the starting shooting or point guard.
Deal will join Davenport (IA) guard Journey Houston as part of the 2025 recruiting class. Houston is currently ranked No. 36 by ESPN.
The Hawkeyes will be replacing the majority of their backcourt next season with the departures of Caitlin Clark, Molly Davis, Gabbie Marshall and Kate Martin. While Deal won’t be on campus until the 2025 season, it’s clear that she will have a huge opportunity in front of her to become an immediate contributor.
