Texas Offseason: Reload, Replace, Repeat – Longhorns Brace for Draft Departures and Portal Chaos

Steve Sarkisian and his Texas staff are staring down a stormy offseason – part heartbreak, part hope, and a whole lot of roster management headaches. The Longhorns must replace key departures with portal additions and incoming recruits, hoping to keep the playoff dream alive in 2025

Jaydon Blue (RB):

Blue is trading burnt orange for NFL green, leaving behind over 1,000 yards and 14 TDs. He became a postseason highlight reel, dashing defenses and Texas fans’ hopes for a return next year. The running back room looks solid, but replacing Blue’s spark? That’s a tough ask.

Hayden Conner (G):

Texas’s iron man at guard walks off after a sack-free season. He protected the QB like a vault door, but sadly, eligibility ran out – just like your favorite Netflix series.

Kelvin Banks Jr. (OT):

No surprise here – Banks heads to the NFL as a likely top-10 pick. The man racked up awards like it was a Black Friday sale: Outland Trophy, Lombardi Trophy, and First-Team All-SEC honors. But with one offensive tackle still undecided, Texas fans are in limbo. Will Cameron Williams stay? Or will he follow Banks, leaving Longhorn Nation crying into their barbecue?

The portal taketh away, but it also giveth. Nearly a dozen Longhorns have entered the transfer portal, yet Texas hauled in the best recruiting class in the nation and four instant-impact transfers.

With roster gaps widening faster than a Texas summer drought, Sarkisian’s staff has their work cut out. But hey, in Texas football, heartbreak is part of the ride – just hold on tight and pray the portal

gods are kind.
