The winter NCAA Transfer Portal window opens on December 9, allowing Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian to target key positions for upgrades on both sides of the ball. The portal will remain open until December 28.
With the adjusted portal timeline, Texas will have extra time to focus on filling immediate roster needs following the high school signing period. The Longhorns have already seen two players, defensive lineman Jaray Bledsoe and wide receiver Jontay Cook II, announce their intention to enter the portal, with more departures expected.
While preparing for the College Football Playoff, Sarkisian and his staff will also turn their attention to the transfer portal. Here are three players Texas is likely to pursue once the portal opens:
Jaheim Oatis, DT
Defensive tackle is one of Texas’ biggest needs. With several key players expected to depart for the NFL and the transfer portal, the Longhorns are looking to add experienced players to the interior defensive line. One potential target is Jaheim Oatis, a 6-foot-5, 325-pound defensive tackle from Alabama. Oatis, a junior with three years of SEC experience, has started over a dozen games for the Crimson Tide and could make an immediate impact for Texas in the defensive trenches.
