“Sad News: 21-Year-Old Canadiens Defenseman Out Indefinitely with Quadriceps Injury”

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Kaiden Guhle is set to be out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to repair a torn quadricep muscle, the team confirmed Wednesday.

Guhle, 23, was released from the hospital the same day after suffering the injury during Montreal’s 4-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets. He was tangled up and fell into the boards, leading to the quadricep tear.

“We’ll feel Guhle’s absence everywhere,” said Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis after practice on Wednesday. “He plays a lot of minutes at 5-on-5, he kills penalties. It’s not just one area that will be impacted—his presence will be missed, but it won’t be one person replacing him.”

Before the injury, Guhle had signed a six-year, $33.3 million extension. He has posted 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) and averaged 21:14 minutes of ice time in 44 games this season.

Since being drafted 16th overall by the Canadiens in the 2020 NHL Draft, Guhle has tallied 54 points (14 goals, 40 assists) in 158 career games.

In response to the injury, the Canadiens recalled defenseman Jayden Struble from their AHL affiliate, Laval. Struble has 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists) in 26 games with Montreal this season.
