“Sad News: Indiana Football Misses Out on 4-Star Recruit Derrek Cooper!”

Four-star athlete Derrek Cooper revealed his top ten schools tonight, and unfortunately, the Indiana Hoosiers football program did not make the cut.

Cooper’s final choices include Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Penn State, and Texas A&M.

The Lauderhill, Florida native, who plays for Chaminade-Madonna in Fort Lauderdale, received an offer from Indiana late last year. Despite the Hoosiers’ strong recruiting efforts in Florida, Cooper ultimately decided to look elsewhere.

Ranked as the No. 23 prospect nationally and the No. 3 athlete in the 247Sports composite rankings, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound Cooper is also the No. 3 recruit out of Florida. Over the past two seasons, he has excelled on both sides of the ball, making 95 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, four sacks, five interceptions, and more on defense. Offensively, he ran for 905 yards and 13 touchdowns, along with 156 receiving yards and a touchdown, and added 107 kick return yards.

Cooper emphasized that when he makes his commitment, it will depend on how well he fits into the team’s scheme, the relationship between his family and the coaches, and the stability of the coaching staff.

Indiana, still in need of running backs for the 2026 class, will now turn their focus to other top prospects like CJ Givers, Favour Akih, and Kimauri Farmer.
