“Indiana’s Latest Transfer Turns Heads: 22-Year-Old Named Among On3’s Top Ten Most Impactful Offseason Moves!”

Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who transferred to the Hoosiers last month, has earned recognition as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 transfer portal rankings by On3 Sports. Mendoza ranks fifth among quarterbacks, following Carson Beck, Miller Moss, John Mateer, and Kaidon Salter.

The former Cal quarterback had a standout season in 2024, passing for 3,004 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions in 11 games with the Golden Bears. Over his two seasons at Cal under coach Justin Wilcox, Mendoza completed 66.5% of his passes, totaling 4,712 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions in 20 games. Additionally, he rushed for 197 yards and four touchdowns.

Mendoza, ranked the No. 3 quarterback in the transfer portal, had offers from schools like Georgia, Miami, Missouri, and UCLA before committing to Indiana.

His younger brother, Alberto Mendoza, is a redshirt freshman quarterback at Indiana and played in one game this season, completing his only pass attempt for 6 yards in a win over Western Illinois.

With a historic 11-2 season behind them, Hoosiers fans have plenty to look forward to in 2025. As Mendoza replaces Rourke and joins a roster with returning starters, new transfers, and incoming freshmen, expectations are high for a strong season in Bloomington.

At 21 years old, Mendoza still has two years of eligibility left. According to ESPN, Mendoza officially signed with Indiana on December 30, securing the quarterback position for the Hoosiers in 2025.
