Nick Saban’s legacy at Alabama football is marked by a remarkable pipeline of talent to the NFL, with the Crimson Tide arguably dominating several positions. However, none stand out more than the running back position, especially following an incredible 2024 season.
A mind-blowing stat shared by Deeg Sports on X highlights Alabama’s dominance:
“About 1 in every 6 touchdowns scored by a running back in the NFL this season came from an Alabama alum.”
Alabama running backs tallied 61 rushing touchdowns, out of 379 total in the NFL.
Alabama had two running backs in the top 5 for rushing yards, with three in the top six, and four players reaching over 1,000 rushing yards this season. Derrick Henry led the charge with 1,921 yards, finishing second in the NFL behind Saquon Barkley. Henry also set the record for the most rushing yards in a season by a player 30 or older and became the first player in NFL history with two seasons of 1,900+ rushing yards.
Jahmyr Gibbs, despite fewer carries than other top players, topped the NFL with 20 total touchdowns and finished fifth in rushing with 1,412 yards. Josh Jacobs, in his first season with the Packers, came in just outside the top 5 at No. 6, with 1,329 yards. Najee Harris continued his consistent performance, rushing for 1,043 yards, his fourth straight 1,000-yard season, despite the Steelers shockingly declining his fifth-year option.
Altogether, former Alabama players accumulated 7,055 rushing yards in the NFL. Alabama also led in receiving yards, interceptions, and tackles, and three former Alabama defensive backs earned spots on the All-Pro 1st team.
Alabama is not just RBU; it’s NFLU.
