Kalen DeBoer and Alabama Boosted by Transfer Portal Addition on Tuesday
It was a mixed season for the Alabama Crimson Tide and first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer, who wrapped up with a 9-4 record, including a 5-3 mark in SEC play and a 19-13 loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl. Given Alabama’s past dominance, missing the College Football Playoff marked the season as a disappointment. However, with the season behind them, DeBoer and the team are now focusing on next year’s improvements.
One key move Alabama made to bolster their roster is adding running back Dre’lyn Washington, a four-year player from the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. Washington, a three-star recruit in 2021, has racked up 1,342 yards and nine touchdowns on 229 carries during his college career, along with 154 yards and two touchdowns receiving. Washington may serve as a solid replacement for Justice Haynes, who recently transferred to Michigan after a productive 2024 season at Alabama.
In addition to Washington, DeBoer has brought in several other potential game-changers through the transfer portal, such as four-star wide receiver Isaiah Horton, three-star offensive lineman Kam Dewberry, and three-star offensive tackle Arkel Anugwom.
