A Minnesota teen’s life was cut short on Saturday after his kayak capsized on Kirby Lake in western Wisconsin. The victim, identified as 17-year-old Emilliano Alonzo Linaldi Enriquez of Minneapolis, went under the water after the boat flipped. His brother managed to reach shore, but despite a frantic search by emergency responders, Enriquez was pulled from the lake by a dive team. He was flown to a hospital but could not be saved.

The incident occurred in Maple Plain Township around 12:30 p.m., prompting multiple 911 calls reporting screams for help. Despite the efforts of local authorities, including sonar-equipped teams, Enriquez’s body was found hours later.

Authorities are investigating, while water safety experts remind everyone of the dangers posed by cold water and the critical importance of wearing life jackets. As temperatures drop, even strong swimmers are at risk of sudden, fatal accidents.
