“Breaking Injury Update: Packers Cornerback Set to Undergo Surgery”

The Brief: The Packers’ two-time Pro Bowl cornerback will likely miss the rest of the season due to a torn PCL and will need surgery.

After playing just seven games this season, most recently in Week 11 against the Bears, Alexander’s knee injury has kept him sidelined since early November. This marks a continuation of injury setbacks for Alexander, as he’s dealt with multiple injuries in three of the past four seasons.

Green Bay’s coach, Matt LaFleur, confirmed Wednesday that Alexander will undergo surgery and that it is unlikely he will return for the rest of the year. This injury originally occurred during the Packers’ loss to the Detroit Lions on November 3, and despite briefly returning to play at Chicago, Alexander only managed 10 snaps before being sidelined again.

His absence creates a significant challenge for the Packers, who are in the hunt for a Super Bowl run as a wild card team. They currently sit as the NFC’s No. 7 seed and would begin the postseason on the road. The Packers’ passing defense has shown vulnerability, highlighted by allowing Sam Darnold to throw for 377 yards in a recent loss to Minnesota.

Despite this, the Packers remain confident in their remaining defensive backs, including Carrington Valentine and Eric Stokes, who have stepped up in Alexander’s absence. Valentine, a 2023 seventh-round pick, has been playing every defensive snap, even recording two interceptions in the past few games.

While Alexander’s injury adds more pressure on the defense, his absence has led to more opportunities for other players to step in and contribute as the Packers aim for a deep playoff run.
