NEWS NOW : Texas Star’s Injury Update: What’s Next for the Longhorns?

Texas Longhorns junior left tackled  was sidelined with an ankle injury during the first quarter of Saturday’s 17-7 victory over No. 20 Texas A&M at Kyle Field. The All-American did not return, later appearing on the sideline in a walking boot and street clothes. Head coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed in the postgame press conference that the injury’s severity remains uncertain.

Banks’ absence prompted redshirt freshman Trevor Goosby to take over at left tackle. Despite a third-quarter false start in the red zone—a sequence that led to a tipped-pass interception returned 93 yards for a touchdown—Goosby performed admirably in his first significant action. The 6’7”, 315-pound lineman showed poise and adaptability, earning recognition from Sarkisian for stepping up in a challenging environment.

“I was really proud of Trevor Goosby,” Sarkisian said. “When Kelvin went down, he stepped in for his first real action and performed well, especially in such a tough setting.”

Before Saturday, Goosby had played just 67 total career snaps, with most of his experience coming in late-game blowout situations. However, his performance against Texas A&M was impressive. Pro Football Focus graded Goosby’s pass blocking at an outstanding 87.1, the highest on the team for the game. His grade also ranked as the second-highest among SEC offensive linemen and the fourth-best nationally among sophomores that week.

Senior center Jake Majors highlighted Goosby’s preparation and the team’s commitment to maintaining a high standard. “It speaks to our culture,” Majors said. “If someone goes down, we don’t expect a drop-off. I’m super proud of Trevor. He works hard every week, and to see him execute at such a high level makes me proud. I’ve been able to help him improve by going over protections with him and Kelvin. We’re praying for Kelvin, but this was a huge moment for Trevor.”

The Longhorns will now await updates on Banks’ injury status as they prepare for their next matchup, knowing Goosby has shown the capability to fill the role when needed.
