NEWS NOW: Injuries Open Doors for Former Auburn Stars Rise in NFL Ranks

Former Auburn Pass-Catchers Advance in NFL Careers

Two former Auburn football standouts are making notable strides in their NFL careers, with both players featured on Wednesday’s transaction report. Their latest moves highlight their persistence and value as they continue to carve out roles in the league.

One player, a seasoned NFL veteran, has been signed to the Philadelphia Eagles’ 53-man active roster after previously being elevated from the practice squad for three consecutive games. NFL rules allow practice squad players to be elevated for up to three games before they must be permanently added to the active roster to remain eligible. The move comes as the Eagles address depth concerns, with one of their starting tight ends sidelined due to injury. The player has already logged significant snaps on both offense and special teams in recent weeks, proving his reliability and earning this promotion. The injury mentioned is to a player on the Philadelphia Eagles’ roster. Specifically, starting tight end Dallas Goedert is dealing with a knee injury that prevented him from practicing, which led to C.J. Uzomah being signed to the Eagles’ active roster. Additionally, the Las Vegas Raiders signed Shedrick Jackson to their practice squad after placing wide receiver and kick returner DJ Turner on injured reserve due to an injury.

So, the injuries that influenced the transactions were those to Dallas Goedert (Eagles) and DJ Turner (Raiders).

The second player, a younger prospect, has re-entered the league by signing with the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad. He began the season with another team’s practice squad but was released in mid-September and has been out of football since. This new opportunity arose after the Raiders placed one of their wide receivers and kick returners on injured reserve, creating an opening. Despite going undrafted in 2023, this player gained valuable experience last season, appearing in five games and contributing on special teams. Now with the Raiders, he has a chance to showcase his abilities and work toward a spot on the active roster.

These moves reflect the determination and hard work of both players as they navigate the challenges of professional football. Their continued success serves as a testament to the strength of Auburn’s football program in preparing athletes for the next level.
