The Golden State Warriors, a strong team in the Western Conference to start the 2024-25 NBA season, suffered a 128-120 defeat to the Brooklyn Nets on Monday. The loss saw an impressive performance from Nets guard Cam Thomas, who caught the attention of Draymond Green. On his podcast, The Draymond Green Show, Green described how Thomas played with a “Kobe-like” intensity, leading the Nets to a significant road win.
Green explained the Warriors’ defensive strategy, which was to double-team Thomas no matter where he went on the court. Despite their efforts, Green recalled a specific moment when he and Moses Moody trapped Thomas near the sideline, thinking they had him cornered. But Thomas stunned them by pulling up for a shot and making it, even as Green closed in. Green was so impressed that he compared Thomas’ composure to that of Kobe Bryant, calling him “different.”
Thomas finished the game with 23 points, shooting 6-of-11 from the field, 3-of-7 from three-point range, and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line. In addition, he grabbed three rebounds and added one assist. This game was part of a standout season for Thomas, who is averaging 24.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while shooting career-high percentages across the board. He has put himself in the conversation for the league’s Most Improved Player award.
However, Thomas is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, and the Nets will have to navigate the coming weeks without him. His remarkable performance against the Warriors showed why Green had such high praise for him. It will be interesting to see how Thomas continues to develop once he returns to action.
