Draymond Green has voiced his displeasure with media outlets calling for his suspension following an incident with Memphis Grizzlies rookie Zach Edey. Green, who tripped Edey and held his leg during a play in the paint, was initially called for a foul, later upgraded to a flagrant one after review. While some media personalities, like Stephen A. Smith, have argued that the play warranted a flagrant foul but not suspension, others, including Kendrick Perkins, believe Green should face further punishment.
Green, however, has a different take. During a recent episode of The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis, he accused the media of trying to create drama for the sake of boosting NBA ratings. He specifically took issue with Stephen A. Smith’s comments, saying that if enough people truly thought he should be suspended, the league would have acted on it by now. Green believes that his name alone generates buzz, and that his critics are capitalizing on that to stir up controversy, which ultimately draws attention to the NBA. Baron Davis agreed, emphasizing the power of controversy in generating interest.
While Green’s theory remains speculative, there’s no denying that the incident has sparked plenty of conversation around the league. Green, for his part, seems confident that his actions have been blown out of proportion by those eager to drum up drama.
