Football fans are eagerly anticipating the historic return of the Texas vs. Texas A&M matchup, which marks the first time since 2012 that the two teams will face off after A&M’s move to the SEC. However, the excitement comes with a hefty price tag.
“Ticket prices are absolutely insane,” said Texas A&M student Brendan Brimage. The cost to attend the legendary Lone Star Showdown in person is steep, with the cheapest tickets priced around $500-600, while premium seats soar to nearly $20,000.
Juan Meraz, a UT alumnus, explained how he and a friend considered going but ultimately decided against it, saying, “It’s not worth it; that’s a lot of money for one game.” Ruby Bixby, a Longhorns fan, echoed similar sentiments, adding that while her family holds season tickets, the $1,000 ticket price was a tough pill to swallow.
The average ticket price for the game is around $1,100, according to StubHub. “I’m kind of shocked,” said UT Austin sophomore Cameron Jobson. “Not a lot of students can afford $1,000 to attend a football game.” As a result, many fans will likely opt for watch parties instead.
Despite the steep prices, fans are excited about the rivalry’s return. “It’s going to be a heated one,” Brimage said, referring to his family’s mix of Aggie and Longhorn supporters. The rivalry, which dates back to 1894, is set to be one of the most significant matchups in recent years, with the winner securing a spot in the SEC Championship Game.
With both teams ranked in the top 20, the game promises to be intense. As one of the most expensive regular-season football games on record, including both NFL and college games, this year’s Texas vs. Texas A&M showdown is set for Saturday, Nov. 30, at 6:30 p.m. at Kyle Field in College Station.
