Clemson will be without a key player for the rest of the season, as announced by head coach Dabo Swinney on Wednesday.
The No. 12 Tigers (9-2) are currently on the outside looking in for a spot in the College Football Playoff, with their rivalry game against No. 15 South Carolina (8-3) looming on Saturday. While this non-conference matchup won’t affect Clemson’s chances in the ACC Championship, it could serve as a pivotal game depending on the outcome of the final week. The Tigers have been battling injuries along the offensive line, and they’ll face another setback. Senior left tackle Trent Howard, who filled in for Elyjah Thurmon after his season-ending injury, will miss the rest of the season due to a torn ACL sustained in practice. Additionally, left tackle Tristan Leigh and left guard Marcus Tate are both questionable for Saturday’s game. With Howard out, Clemson will need to adjust its offensive line as it prepares to face a South Carolina defense that ranks second in the SEC with 39 sacks. The game is set for a noon ET kickoff from Death Valley, where the Tigers are favored by 3 points.
