The No. 5 Indiana Hoosiers’ undefeated streak came to an end on Saturday when they were defeated by the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus. Despite the loss, Joel Klatt offered a glimmer of hope for Indiana fans during a recent episode of “The Joel Klatt Show.” Ohio State extended its winning streak over Indiana to 29 games, with the Hoosiers’ last victory over the Buckeyes dating back to 1998. Indiana took an early lead with a two-yard touchdown run by Ty Son Lawton, but that would be their only touchdown until the fourth quarter. Following the first-quarter score, Ohio State responded with 31 unanswered points. Indiana managed another touchdown from Lawton and converted a two-point attempt to make it 31-15, but the Buckeyes added another touchdown to seal the win.
Despite the defeat, Klatt supported Indiana’s College Football Playoff chances, comparing their worst loss to those of other top CFP contenders. He pointed to losses from No. 8 Miami (to Georgia Tech), No. 13 SMU (to BYU), and No. 6 Notre Dame (to Northern Illinois), arguing that Indiana’s only loss to Ohio State is far more respectable. Klatt emphasized that Notre Dame’s loss to Northern Illinois and its 78th-ranked strength of schedule raised more concerns than Indiana’s setback. “Miami lost to Georgia Tech, SMU lost to BYU, and Notre Dame lost to Northern Illinois. If there’s a question now, it should be about Notre Dame,” Klatt stated. “This is why I’m telling you that Indiana is absolutely in.”
Indiana fans will find out where they stand in the updated CFP Rankings, which will be revealed on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. The Hoosiers will wrap up their regular season against Purdue on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET on FS1.
