The Golden State Warriors have started the 2024-25 season strong, but their rotation took a significant blow on Wednesday. Guard De’Anthony Melton, who has missed the past two games due to a sprained left ACL, will undergo knee surgery and be sidelined for the rest of the season, the team confirmed.
Melton was a key contributor for the Warriors, offering versatility on offense as a reliable 3-point shooter and secondary playmaker, while also being one of the top guard defenders in the NBA. His absence will certainly be felt, as he was averaging 10.3 points per game this season and shooting 37.1% from beyond the arc.
Despite this setback, the Warriors remain at the top of the Western Conference with a 10-3 record. With Melton out, the team will need to adjust its rotation to fill the gap, but the Warriors are well-equipped with a deep roster. Players like Brandin Podziemski, Buddy Hield, and Gary Payton II are expected to step up and take on bigger roles to help replace Melton’s production.
The Warriors have a few manageable games ahead, including matchups against the Atlanta Hawks, New Orleans Pelicans, San Antonio Spurs, and Brooklyn Nets, giving them some time to figure out how to adjust their lineup moving forward. With Steve Kerr’s experience managing the rotation, the Warriors are in a strong position to continue their successful start to the season.
