DENVER (AP) – A judge on Monday denied a plea to reduce the $300,000 bail for Luis Mendoza, accused of unleashing a horrific attack that left Denver Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds wounded and shaken.
Prosecutors described the October ambush as a “violent, brutal assault” in which Mendoza and others fired over 30 shots into Reynolds’ SUV, leaving chaos and fear in their wake.
“This was a coordinated and merciless attack,” said prosecutor Holly MacDonald, urging the court to keep Mendoza behind bars.
Mendoza’s attorney pleaded for his release, highlighting his role as a caregiver to his family, but the court held firm.
Reynolds, shot in the arm and head, narrowly escaped with his companions after the SUV was disabled. Though his injuries were deemed minor, the emotional scars linger. Broncos coach Sean Payton noted the veteran player remains deeply shaken, casting a shadow over his first season with the team.
