Darts legend Andy Fordham has tragically passed away at 59, just months after revealing his fear of death following years of health struggles. Battling severe obesity, alcohol addiction, and other health issues, Fordham was open about the toll they had taken on his life. He once shared that his greatest fear was waking up unable to breathe and not being able to say goodbye to his wife and children.
Despite his challenges, Fordham’s personality and resilience made him a beloved figure in the darts world. Known as “The Viking,” he captured the hearts of fans with his warmth and charisma. His crowning achievement came in 2004 when he won the BDO World Championship, but it was his enduring passion for the game that kept him connected to the sport, even making a memorable return in 2015.
Fordham’s passing on July 15, with his wife, Jenny, by his side, marks the end of an era for darts fans. While his health struggles were many, it’s his spirit, strength, and dedication that will be remembered most fondly. He leaves behind a lasting legacy, not just as a champion, but as a man who faced life’s greatest challenges with courage and heart.
