Sophomore cornerback Damari Brown, a key figure in the Miami Hurricanes’ secondary, is working towards a return after suffering an undisclosed injury during the team’s season-opening win over the Florida Gators on Aug. 31. While Brown has missed nine games, his impact has been felt off the field. Teammates, including freshman OJ Frederique, have praised his leadership, noting how Brown’s guidance has improved their play.
Head coach Mario Cristobal highlighted Brown’s progress, emphasizing his growth in engagement and personality during recovery. Brown is practicing and, along with Elijah Alston and Ryan Rodriguez, is a game-time decision for Saturday’s home game against Wake Forest. His return would strengthen a secondary that has allowed 203.8 passing yards per game and 29 pass plays of 20+ yards this season.
Meanwhile, wide receiver Xavier Restrepo and kicker Andres Borregales were named semifinalists for national awards. Restrepo, a Biletnikoff Award contender, has tallied 934 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns this season. Borregales, in the running for the Lou Groza Award, has been nearly flawless, making 13 of 14 field goals and all extra-point attempts. Both are closing in on setting new school records.
