Browns Initiate Rebuild with Amari Cooper Trade
Over a month has passed since the Cleveland Browns traded Amari Cooper. With their season faltering, the Browns sent the star receiver to the Buffalo Bills on October 15 in exchange for two future draft picks, signaling the start of a potential rebuild.
While trades don’t always benefit the players involved, this one has been a success for Cooper. Despite missing a few games since the move, the Bills have gone 5-0 with Cooper on the roster, solidifying their position as one of the NFL’s top Super Bowl contenders.
Reflecting on his time in Cleveland and his new chapter in Buffalo, Cooper shared his thoughts after a recent Bills victory. “It was the first time in a long time that I felt joy from winning a game,” Cooper said during a post-game interview, according to Bills insider Thad Brown. “So many guys on the team are playmakers, and they show up collectively when their number is called. It’s just amazing.”
Cooper, who started his career with the Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys, joined the Browns in March 2022 via a trade that included a fifth-round pick and a pick swap. The Browns had hoped Cooper could be the No. 1 receiver they needed to elevate their offense. While Cooper achieved individual success in Cleveland, the team struggled with consistency, going 19-21 during his tenure.
With Cooper set to become a free agent, Browns general manager Andrew Berry chose to trade him before the deadline rather than risk losing him for nothing in the offseason. Despite the team’s struggles, Cooper remained a consummate professional during his time in Cleveland. His success with the Bills has not only bolstered their offense but also improved their Super Bowl LIX odds to +700 (4th) on FanDuel Sportsbook.
