Breaking News: “Recruiting Bombshell: Insider Reveals Miami’s Hidden Vulnerability”

On his podcast, *The Wiltfong Whiparound*, Steve Wiltfong, the Vice President of National College Football Recruiting and the Transfer Portal at On3, recently discussed the Miami Hurricanes’ recruiting efforts as the Early Signing Period (December 4-6) approaches in less than three weeks. Wiltfong touched on potential flips to Miami, as the Hurricanes continue to bolster their class for both 2024 and 2025.

Miami made headlines earlier this week when they flipped four-star edge rusher Hayden Lowe from USC. They also secured a commitment from four-star edge rusher Herbert Scroggins, who has been with Miami since June. Additionally, the Hurricanes have commitments from three-star defensive linemen Mykah Newton and Donte Simpson in the 2025 class. Simpson committed in August, while Newton flipped from North Carolina State just two weeks later.

The 2024 class for Miami features a standout defensive line group, including five-star prospects Justin Scott (defensive tackle), Marquise Lightfoot (edge rusher), and Armondo Blount (defensive lineman). Miami also secured commits from defensive tackles Artavius Jones and Daylen Russell, along with edge rushers Cole McConathy, Booker Pickett Jr., and Elias Rudolph in the 2025 class. It’s expected that the Hurricanes will continue to add to their defensive line in the 2025 class.

Wiltfong singled out defensive tackle Jarquez Carter as a key target for Miami in the final weeks before signing day. Carter, an in-state recruit from Newberry, Florida, is currently committed to Ohio State but remains a top priority for Miami. Wiltfong mentioned that while Carter is still leaning toward Ohio State, Miami continues to push hard, much like they did with Hayden Lowe, who was originally thought to be sticking with USC before flipping to Miami.

Carter is ranked as the 315th overall prospect, the 27th-best defensive tackle, and the 42nd-best player in Florida for the 2025 class. The Hurricanes have previously flipped players from Ohio State, including running backs Mark Fletcher and Jordan Lyle, as well as defensive lineman Justin Scott in the 2024 class. Could Carter be the next Buckeyes commit to flip?

Miami has also made significant strides in recruiting defensive backs for the 2025 class, with six DB commitments already. Two are cornerbacks, while four are safeties. Of those, four are blue-chip prospects and two are three-stars. With Mario Cristobal leading the charge, Miami is aiming to build a top-10 roster nationally and continue its push for dominance in the ACC and a potential college football playoff berth.
