Former Broncos QB Drew Lock is now a backup with the New York Giants, and he might just get his shot to shine as the season winds down. After the disaster that’s been Daniel Jones’ season, it’s looking more and more likely that he’ll be benched, possibly for good in a Giants uniform.
Remember when Jones somehow snagged a four-year, $160 million deal? Looking back, you have to wonder what GM Joe Schoen was thinking. Jones has been a disaster, and some might argue Lock could be the better option—though that’s not exactly a glowing endorsement.
Lock, drafted by the Broncos in 2019, had some hype, especially after they snagged other stars like Dalton Risner and Noah Fant. But his journey took a twist, ending up in Seattle as part of the Russell Wilson trade. Now, he’s in New York, and after watching Jones struggle, it’s hard to believe Lock won’t get his chance soon.
The Giants are a mess, and it’s baffling they passed on top QB prospects like Michael Penix Jr., JJ McCarthy, and Bo Nix to draft Malik Nabers. If things keep going this way, GM Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll could be out of a job.
As for Lock, while his time in Denver had its fair share of setbacks—hello, Zoom offseason and Pat Shurmur’s brutal scheme—he never really had a fair shot. Now, in a struggling Giants offense, it’s unclear if he can turn things around, but who knows? Maybe he’s not done as a starter just yet. Whatever happens, I’m rooting for him—he always seemed like a solid guy, and I’d love to see him prove the doubters wrong.
