**Dodson’s Return to the AFC East**
Dodson originally joined the Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He spent most of that first season on the practice squad before playing a larger role in 2020. Over four seasons in Buffalo, he appeared in 68 games, recording 143 tackles and 4.5 sacks.
With linebackers Matt Milano and Baylon Spector still recovering from injuries, some thought the Bills could use Dodson to fill in. However, the Dolphins had priority on the waiver wire and claimed him.
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald explained that the team released Dodson to create opportunities for other linebackers, including rookie Tyrice Knight. Rather than demote Dodson from his starting role, Macdonald said they wanted to allow him the chance to find a new team where he could continue playing a prominent role.
“We really appreciate T-Dot,” Macdonald said. “He’s worked incredibly hard and rehabbed throughout the offseason. When we took a step back and evaluated the situation, we decided it was best for us to move forward and give the other linebackers a chance to step up. This also gives Tyrel the chance to find another team where he can finish the season strong.”
**Buffalo’s Defense Could Receive a Boost**
The Bills might see a significant defensive boost soon. Head coach Sean McDermott confirmed that the team has activated the 21-day practice window for linebacker Matt Milano, who is recovering from a torn pectoral suffered during training camp. Although Milano has already been ruled out for this Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, McDermott is optimistic about his progress and said the team will monitor his recovery week-to-week.
“We’re taking it one week at a time,” McDermott said. “It’s been a while since he’s played, but he’s done a great job getting back with help from our trainers. We’ll assess him as the week progresses and see where he stands.”
