Cristiano Ronaldo has signed with Saudi Arabian soccer club Al Nassr in a deal reportedly worth a record-breaking salary, marking a significant milestone in his career. The 37-year-old, who recently left Manchester United after a fallout with management, will play for Al Nassr until June 2025.
After months of speculation, Ronaldo’s move to the Saudi club was confirmed, with Al Nassr hailing the signing as historic. The club expressed that Ronaldo’s presence would inspire not only their team but also the league and the nation as a whole.
Ronaldo, who is eager to experience a new football league, joins Al Nassr with a reported salary of around $200 million per year, including commercial agreements. If accurate, this would make it the highest salary in the history of the sport. Ronaldo’s contract is expected to net him over $1 million per week.
Al Nassr, one of Saudi Arabia’s oldest soccer clubs, has won nine Saudi Premier League titles and is managed by French national Rudi Garcia. Ronaldo’s signing comes as Saudi Arabia continues to invest heavily in sports and entertainment to diversify its economy.
Ronaldo, the all-time top goal-scorer in professional soccer, has a prolific career with 819 goals and a massive social media following, making him a valuable asset for Al Nassr and the Saudi kingdom. He recently set a new record as the first man to score in five different FIFA World Cups during the Qatar 2022 tournament.
