Brisbane coach discusses why he decided to bring back a former star to rejoin the team.

**Lee Briers’ Return to England Confirmed as He Reflects on ‘Tough Decision’ to Leave Brisbane Broncos**

Brisbane Broncos have announced that their highly-regarded assistant coach, Lee Briers, will be returning to England at the end of the season. Since joining the Broncos in 2023, Briers has received much acclaim for his contributions, particularly in guiding the team to the NRL Grand Final alongside head coach Kevin Walters. Briers’ focus has been on attack and player development.

Reports from Rugby League Live suggest that Briers has been in discussions with St Helens about a potential return to his hometown club for next year, to work with head coach Paul Wellens. However, no official confirmation has been made by St Helens.

Briers, a former player with over 400 appearances for Warrington Wolves and 20 caps for Wales, transitioned to coaching after retiring, working as an assistant at Warrington and Wigan before his move to Brisbane.

Commenting on his departure, Briers expressed gratitude to Kevin Walters, CEO Dave Donaghy, and the Broncos for the opportunity. He acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, citing family reasons for his return to the UK. Briers highlighted the personal and professional growth he experienced in Brisbane and cherished the friendships and memories made. He also praised Walters’ man management skills and reflected on the differences between rugby league in Australia and the UK.

Broncos head coach Kevin Walters paid tribute to Briers, acknowledging his significant contributions and positive attitude. Walters expressed hope for continued success in the remaining months and assured that Briers and his family would always be welcome at the Broncos.
