**Milwaukee Brewers Announce Pat Murphy as 20th Manager in Franchise History**

After a long coaching career, Pat Murphy is finally getting his first major league managerial role. On Wednesday, the Milwaukee Brewers officially named the 64-year-old Murphy as their 20th manager, signing him to a three-year contract. He takes over from Craig Counsell, who moved to the Chicago Cubs.

General Manager Matt Arnold praised Murphy’s extensive experience and his familiarity with the Brewers, stating, “Pat has been a significant contributor in our recent success. We are pleased to keep him in the Brewers family and excited to name him manager today.”

Murphy, who has been the Brewers’ bench coach for the past eight seasons, will be introduced at a news conference on Thursday at 11 a.m.

Former Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks, who joined the organization in a player-development role in 2022, will be the associate manager on Murphy’s staff. Weeks, 41, played 11 years for the Brewers and was their first-round pick in 2003. Arnold highlighted Weeks’ hard-nosed playing style and his value to the coaching staff.

The rest of the 2023 coaching staff will return with some title changes. Walker McKinven is now the run prevention coordinator, Jim Henderson is the assistant pitching coach, and Nestor Corredor is the major-league field coordinator. Returning coaches include pitching coach Chris Hook, third-base coach Jason Lane, first-base coach Quintin Berry, and hitting coaches Ozzie Timmons and Connor Dawson.

Murphy has previous managerial experience, including a stint as the interim manager for the San Diego Padres in 2015, where he went 42-54. He also managed in the Padres’ minor-league system and served as their special assistant to baseball operations. His college coaching career included positions at Maryville College, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, the University of Notre Dame, and Arizona State University, where he compiled a 1,000-457-4 record.

Murphy, originally from Syracuse, New York, and now residing in Mesa, Arizona, has four children, including Kai, an outfielder in the Padres organization, and is the father-in-law of former major-leaguer Pedro Álvarez.
