Packers Sign Jacob Eason to Bolster Quarterback Depth
The Green Bay Packers have signed quarterback Jacob Eason to add depth during their training camp. Eason joins Sean Clifford, a second-year pro, and Michael Pratt, a rookie seventh-round pick, in the quarterback lineup. Jordan Love, the team’s starting quarterback, is present at the camp but isn’t practicing due to ongoing contract negotiations.
Eason, 26, has appeared in two NFL games, one with the Indianapolis Colts in 2021 and another with the Carolina Panthers in 2022. He was drafted by the Colts in the fourth round of the 2020 draft out of Washington, after starting his college career at Georgia. Eason has also been part of the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, and New York Giants organizations and had a tryout with the Packers during their rookie minicamp in May.
Commenting on his return to Green Bay, Eason said, “Just got in last night, so it’s been a little bit of a whirlwind just picking it up again, obviously, from minicamp. I was here for minicamp and got a little taste, but we’re back to it now.”
To accommodate Eason, the Packers released long snapper Peter Bowden. Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst mentioned that Love is involved in all other team activities and expressed optimism that a contract agreement will be reached soon.
