**Queensland State of Origin Star Carl Webb Passes Away After Battle with Motor Neurone Disease**

Seven months ago, Queensland State of Origin star Carl Webb passed away after a battle with motor neurone disease, as reported on r/nrl and couriermail.com.au.

Former Queensland Origin hardman Carl Webb died on Thursday night after a four-year struggle with Motor Neurone Disease. Webb, 42, was known as one of rugby league’s toughest players, having played 187 first-grade games in a career that included 12 Origin matches for Queensland and one Test for Australia in 2008.

A close friend described Webb as a powerful force on the field, comparing him to heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson. Webb’s battle began with a shock diagnosis of MND at 39. This progressive neurological disorder destroys the cells controlling muscle activity, leading to difficulties in movement, breathing, speaking, and swallowing. Webb’s condition worsened after a fall at his Dalby home.

In one of his final interviews, Webb spoke about the daily struggles he faced due to the disease, noting a noticeable decline over the past year. The former rugby league star, originally from Mt Isa, was a state boxing champion in his teens and became a Queensland hero with his memorable try in his 2001 Origin debut.

Despite initially maintaining some independence, Webb’s condition required him to use a powered wheelchair for long walks and daily assistance as his motor skills deteriorated. The Carl Webb Foundation was established to support his children and other MND sufferers.

Webb made his first-grade debut for the Broncos in 2000, later playing for the Cowboys and Parramatta. He retired in 2011 and is survived by his four children, including his son Carter.
