NFL Insider: Jordan Love Set to Become Highest-Paid QB; Packers’ $55 Million Per Year Offer Rejected Due to Concerns

**Packers’ Jordan Love Set to Become Highest-Paid Quarterback in NFL .

Excitement is building among Green Bay Packers fans as reports suggest a new contract for quarterback Jordan Love could be announced soon. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the deal is expected to be finalized this week, potentially making Love the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.

During a conversation with Chase Daniel, Russini stated, “I believe Jordan Love is going to be the highest-paid quarterback in football when this does wrap up.” This news comes as Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst recently told reporters that the deal is “close” and that Love is holding out until an agreement is reached.

Currently, Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence are the league’s highest-paid quarterbacks, each earning an average annual salary of $55 million, according to Spotrac. If Love’s contract surpasses this amount, it will be a significant milestone for the young quarterback, who is only in his second season as a full-time starter.

Love’s journey to this point has been remarkable. Drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, his selection raised eyebrows at the time, given that the Packers still had Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback. Love patiently waited for his opportunity, which finally came in the 2023 season after Rodgers’ departure.

In his first full season as a starter, Love impressed with a completion rate of 64.2%, throwing for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. His performance was pivotal in leading the Packers to the playoffs, solidifying his position as a franchise quarterback.

The anticipated contract underscores the Packers’ confidence in Love’s abilities and their commitment to building the team’s future around him. With the deal reportedly focused on guaranteed money, both sides are working to finalize the contract language, ensuring all parties are satisfied with the terms.

Packers fans are eagerly awaiting the official announcement, ready to celebrate the extension that secures Love as the team’s cornerstone for years to come. As the countdown continues, all eyes are on Green Bay, anticipating a new era led by one of the NFL’s most promising talents.

Love also shined on the marquee stage, throwing for three touchdowns and zero interceptions in a postseason victory over the Dallas Cowboys before a narrow loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round.

Considering Love is just 25 years old and the front office likely wants to avoid some of the drama that defined the end of Rodgers’ tenure with the team, it isn’t surprising a deal appears imminent.

Russini explained there are plenty of procedural steps to work through, adding, “from what I was told, this is more just about the structure of the deal. Not so much the number that we’re discussing now, which I think it’s pretty safe to say that they’re going to pay him what the market dictates, which we know right now is above $55 million.”
