TRAGIC: Willy Adames issues statement…

The Brewers Should Give Willy Adames Their Patented Three-Day Reset

Looking back, Monday might be seen as a pivotal moment in the Brewers’ long-term strategy for their middle infield. In the short term, they have the means to help Willy Adames.

In an effort to initiate a mental reset for the struggling shortstop, manager Craig Counsell started Brice Turang at shortstop on Monday night against the Rockies. Additionally, the coaching staff gave Adames orders to arrive later than usual at the park, effectively giving him a partial mental health day. This was a drastic step, but Adames’ performance (.201/.286/.376 overall and .188/.262/.358 since May 1) warranted such measures.

The Brewers might consider extending this break by a couple of days to focus on specific mechanical adjustments. To understand this, let’s look back to last September.

From June to August 2022, Tyrone Taylor struggled at the plate, hitting .198/.255/.367 with 55 strikeouts, 15 extra-base hits, and 11 walks in 192 plate appearances. By the final week of August, Taylor was used mainly for his defensive skills, being subbed in and out to avoid tough matchups at the plate.

Here’s a look at Taylor’s setup and swing in the last game of that home stand.
